Here's an article on a company that is planning to do just that, producing 20 million gallons of ethanol per year from municipal solid waste (MSW) from a landfill (the Three Rivers Landfill) in Ponotoc, Mississippi. The Montreal Canada based company,
Enerkem, announced the construction of the $250 million plant and their plans of producing cellulosic ethanol.
