Biomass conversion soon will be less expensive to convert to cellulosic ethanol

Creating cellulosic ethanol has been a challenge for many in the alternative fuel industry. Tremendous progress has been made, with pilot plants and full production plants now online helping to provide ethanol for our day-to-day transportation needs.

Because of the use of non-food stock to produce cellulosic ethanol, there is a push in the industry to produce cellulosic ethanol even faster and with less expense. The article on Science Today talks about progress that has been made thanks to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) scientists' studies of a promising new biorefinery yeast, converting wheat straw, corn stalks, and other biomass to cellulosic ethanol will be less expensive soon!
